Throughout this process of creating a music video, we came across many difficulties and issues. The most prominent being split into new groups. However despite not being able to work as effectively as we otherwise would have, we managed to collate to a certain degree to film and create our video on time.
Two of our group were actors/directors and the other two were cameraman and editor. This worked well as we were all able to do our job effectively and efficiently before the deadline. We were given the option to use the mac facilities, however after having techinical difficulties with the converted files on the camera and the rendering process taking too long, we aborted the mac's and created it on Windows Movie Maker 2011 instead.
Next time, we would need to draw up a proper storyboard as ours was vague and we wasted a lot of time uncertain of what to do. This will improve our time management as well and ensure that we work to the best of our abilities within the time permitted. Similarly, we had one main actor in our video of whom wasn't regularly available, so we ended up shooting our footage in a few hours. This could be avoided again by making a table of when everyone is free in order to collect mor footage to have a wider variety of pathways for our video.
There was a newer and improved version of the music video, however due to corrupt files, it would not upload. This has prepared me for next year, where in the A2 level course, we will be working in a group again to create a 5 minute film in the style of Film Noir. This task will be significantly different to the music video project, however having different experience in the sectors will make this better as well as learning from our mistakes and technical problems to avoid them. As the filming style of Film Noir will be very different to a music video, over the summer I may practise various shots and longer shot types which are typically related to Film Noir.
Overall I found that this project was very useful in terms of realising the amount of effort that goes into production after the initial fiming of the footage.
This is the initial transition stage before our Film Noir project at the beginning of next year.
As part of our analysis of the classes music videos, we watched them and then as a group (Me, Georgia, Akshay and Emma) recorded ourselves analysing and talking about most of the music videos from our class that we saw. We mentioned Mise-en-scene as well as connotation of colour and the effects different camera angles had.
Here are the videos that Emma edited together for our group:
